Position Overview
The Coordinator of K-5 Learning works directly with the Director of Learning and the Pastor in providing religious education that supports the mission of our parish and stays within budget restraints. The Coordinator K-5 Learning successfully manages the curriculum, volunteers, and the implementation of programs that support the teachings of the Church and encourage opportunities for involvement in parish life.
Essential Job Functions
Communication
Resources, assists, and supports parents in their role as the primary religious educators of their children.
Recruits, interviews, trains, supervise and evaluate volunteers for all levels of involvement in the K-5 Learning program.
Establishes a group of parent facilitators for social gatherings and outreach experiences throughout the year.
Publicizes and recruits’ students for programs and social events.
Supports the catechists and volunteers in their efforts of bringing the formation of our faith to our children by being present at classes and events.
Issues communications in various forms (mail, email, webpage, phone, etc.) to increase contact and flow of information among all who participate in the programs.
Provides an opportunity for program evaluation from the parents, the catechists, and the students at the end of the year.
Curriculum Development
Develops and implements an interactive curriculum that would engage Middle School students.
Provide volunteers with necessary resources to confidently lead Middle School gatherings.
Empowers parents and volunteers to become confident faith leaders within their families and the parish community through the offering of periodic faith formation workshops.
Implements the yearly Faith Formation theme/goal into the Middle School and RCIC programs.
Provides guest speakers when necessary.
Provides liturgical celebrations throughout the program year.
Researches media and other programming resources.
Works in a spirit of cooperation with other Faith Formation coordinators and programs.
Integrates and complements the activities of the parish community into the K-5 Learning programs.
Ensures that all curricula for the Middle School and RCIC programs support the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Parish mission statement.
Resources
Resources and procures catechetical resources for the K-5 Learning programs, staying within budget guidelines.
Maintains inventory of supplies and orders supplies as necessary.
Ensures all supplies are available and organized for all K-5 Learning programs.
Spiritual and Professional Growth
Encourages ongoing formation for catechists in conjunction with the requirements for catechist certification outlined by the Dioceses of Oakland.
Continues professional development and spiritual enrichment through professional reading, seminars, conferences, retreats, and institutes, while keeping continuing education costs within budget guidelines.
Administrative Functions
When necessary, greets and assists parishioners and visitors, referring them to appropriate contacts.
Receives phone calls and responds to messages on a timely basis.
Assists in the registration of families for Faith Formation programs.
Develops the annual budget for the Middle School and RCIC programs.
Parish Leadership
Integrates and complements the activities of the parish community into the K-5 Learning programs.
Acts as an advocate for middle school youth to the parish and community.
Be a positive spokesperson for support of parish decisions, including expansion projects, new ministries, parish functions, facility updates, etc.
Non-Essential Job Functions
Participates in Learning meetings, all Pastoral Staff Meetings, and Staff Retreat days.
Attends meetings as necessary with ministry leaders and other parish leaders.
Attend parish functions when possible.
Requirements
A practicing Roman Catholic with an informed understanding of Vatican II and how it applies to the mission of the parish.
Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking, and presentation skills
Must be able to work independently with little supervision
Strong management/supervision experience
Good software skills, including Microsoft Office (or equivalent), PDS, Constant Comment, etc.
Knowledge of child development and learning styles.
Must be able to have flexibility in work hours
Excellent organizational skills required
Must be able to multi-task
Must be able to think clearly under pressure
Must possess good record-keeping skills
Must have strong time management skills
