Community Content Writer Role Description 

We are looking for a Community Content Writer to join our communications team and enrich our church website with stories that highlight our community and individuals within it. The purpose of this role is to publicly share and connect readers to inner workings of our community. These inner workings are things you just don’t see if you only attend mass. The Community Content Writer is a fundamental component of showcasing the heart and soul of St. Charles in a digital written setting. You can expect to cover:

  • Outreach projects & the impacts they have made

  • Individuals in our community and their story with Jesus

  • Special Events and other important community events

The Community Content Writer responsibilities include conducting research on topics and proofreading articles before publication. Ultimately, you’ll deliver quality writing pieces that appeal to our community and boost awareness inside and out. Feel free to share samples of your work or portfolio of your published articles, along with your application. 

Community Content Writer Responsibilities: 

  • Research and write stories on community-related topics 

  • Proofread content for errors and inconsistencies. 

  • Submit work to Communications Manager for input and approval 

  • Work with social media team to assist with content promotion 

  • Creating compelling headlines and body copy that will capture the attention of the target audience. 

  • Ensure all-around consistency (style, fonts, images and tone) 

  • Update website content as needed 

  • May be asked to write Press Releases or other internal communications as needed

Community Content Writer Requirements: 

  • Excellent writing and editing skills 

  • Ability to meet deadlines 

  • Experience doing research using multiple sources 

  • Attend community events when needed

  • The ability to shift-gears when working on projects 

  • The ability to adapt to a growing and evolving team 

  • The ability to work independently and remotely 

  • Effective communication skills 

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications 

  • Proficient in online communicating  

  • Must have access to a computer 

Community Content Writer Bonus Qualifications (but not required): 

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or related field 

  • Proven content writing or copywriting experience 

  • Working knowledge of content management systems 

  • Photography skills
